Pet Adoption
"Shelter dogs aren't broken. They've simply experienced more life than other dogs. If they were human, we would call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write. The ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Do not pity shelter dogs. Adopt one. And be proud to have their greatness by your side." - Pedigree Adoption Drive
How To Adopt a Pet from Arenac County Animal Control
Thank you for your interest in adopting from our shelter. We are committed to ensuring each animal is placed in a safe, responsible, and loving home. Please review our adoption process below:
1. Submit an Adoption Application
Complete and submit an adoption application for the specific animal(s) you are interested in adopting. Applications are located within the animal's profile. Applications must be fully completed to be considered.
2. Application Review
Once your application is submitted, the Shelter Director will carefully review it to ensure the potential adoption is a good match for both the applicant and the animal.
3. Contact & Appointment Scheduling
After your application review is complete, the Shelter Director will contact you to discuss the next steps, answer any questions you may have, and guide you through the remainder of the adoption process. These next steps may include scheduling a home visit, ensuring that all members of the household have the opportunity to meet the dog, and, if you currently have a dog, arranging a meet-and-greet between your dog and ours to ensure a good fit.
4. Appointment-Only Adoptions
All adoptions are conducted by appointment only and must be scheduled directly with the Shelter Director. We do not offer walk-in adoptions.
If you are ready to begin the process, please complete the adoption application for your animal of interest. We look forward to helping you find your new companion.
5. Legal Compliance & Adoption Conditions
All adoptions are subject to approval at the sole discretion of the Shelter Director. Submission of an application does not guarantee the adoption of any animal.
The shelter reserves the right to deny any application based on factors including, but not limited to, animal welfare concerns, prior history of animal neglect or cruelty, landlord restrictions, incompatible living arrangements, or any other condition deemed not in the best interest of the animal.
All adopted animals must comply with applicable local, county, and state laws, including licensing, vaccination requirements, and ordinances governing animal ownership.
By proceeding with the adoption process, applicants acknowledge that the information provided on the adoption application is accurate and truthful to the best of their knowledge.
